Seagulls' stadium plans unveiled

Fans have been given a preview of how Brighton and Hove Albion FC's new 22,000-seater stadium will look.

Bosses unveiled the latest images of the club's planned 50m Falmer Stadium in East Sussex at a special fans forum.

Chief Executive Martin Perry said the plans had been updated to meet new legal requirements and included "more and better" provision for the disabled.

He said the stadium was due to open in time for the 2010/11 season and site work would begin at the end of 2008.

Season ticket holders will be given special hard hat visits to allow them to select their seats nearer the completion date.

'On track'

Mr Perry said: "It's obviously a very exciting time for the club. There was the fans forum last week where they were shown these new images and shown what's coming.

Roma's success no surprise

Spalletti tried to keep his feet on the ground after his latest success.

"We have to be cautious and keep our heads," he told a news conference. "Too much euphoria is a dangerous thing. After all we also have to concentrate on the league and we have got a tough game coming up at the weekend."

Real Madrid's worst fears were however confirmed on Wednesday and the loss will have major repercussions at a club that measures success in terms of European trophies.

"We didn't have that magic we've shown on other nights," said skipper Raul, whose 61st Champions League goal was to no avail.

"It's a very heavy blow, a really big disappointment because the Champions League was one of our big objectives this season and now we are out of it."

At the back Pepe gave further evidence of poor judgement in picking up two needless bookings, while his fellow defenders struggled to deal with Roma's sharp passing and running off the ball.

Mayor sounds alarm, says Daniels' plan would cost city

Sounding the alarm about possible budget shortfalls that would cause deep cuts in services, area government officials brought their campaign against Gov. Mitch Daniels' property tax relief plan to Evansville on Monday.

Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel estimated the city could lose $3.3 million in property tax revenue in 2009 and $3.4 million in 2010, almost 6 percent of the city's property tax levy.

Vampire Weekend's Debut Worth the Hype

Their lyrics provide a virtual tour of the life and education of the young and privileged, gleefully bounding from Cape Cod to campus, from sophistic grammatical references to the finer points of Beaux Arts architecture.

Sure, Vampire Weekend is effete, but it's ultimately charming. While its members clearly revel in their fortunate world, their name-dropping never gets too obnoxious, and it never obscures the emotional content of their songs. They make sense of how the thrill you get from seeing your crush walk to class is just about the same as discovering an obscure band that changes everything you thought about music.

If you long for the days when you were an annoyingly well-read, hyper-energetic college kid who geeked out over music and pop-culture trivia — or if you were never any of those things, but always wondered what it would feel like — this CD will feel as comfortable to you as a well-worn Ralph Lauren cardigan.

Gunfire too common to raise alarm in Memphis, Tenn., neighborhood ...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Gunfire happens enough around Lester Street that neighbors often don't bother to call police. Now residents are wondering whether the shots they heard last weekend killed six people and critically wounded three other children.

Police did not offer a motive in the slayings on Wednesday, two days after the grisly scene was found inside a small brick house in the community known as Binghampton, where low-income homes sit near cheap motels and junkyards.

"I did hear shooting, but I didn't know where it was. Sometimes guys get crazy and just shoot up in the air,'' said Marie Mackey, 33, who was visiting her mother's house a couple of blocks away Saturday night. "If I had known, I would have called.''

Lt. Joe Scott, a top homicide detective, said the surviving children are witnesses and under police protection.

ORU alumni support sought

Uncertainty remained Saturday about what effect Richard Roberts' resignation as president will have on Oral Roberts University, but some observers said it was a step toward improvement.

"I think people are going to be waiting and watching: OK, can it survive without a Roberts at the helm?" said Donald R. Vance, professor of biblical languages and literature.

Vance said he thinks alumni need to support ORU as it undergoes this transition, after being led for 42 years by a Roberts. ORU professors are committed to the school's evangelical Christian mission, but that might not be obvious without a TV minister as president, he said. Christian colleges across the country are led by non-ministers -- "it will just be different for us."

ORU leaders have not addressed what role, if any, Roberts will have at the university.
